What it does

The Machete is the first serious melee upgrade in Casualties: Unknown. It deals 50 damage to enemies on a 0.8-second cooldown and 38 damage to tiles on a 0.35-second cooldown, with a 5.75-tile reach. Its 200 Cutting quality also makes it a strong crafting tool and lets it amputate infected limbs.

At 1.5u it is a real weight commitment. The Claw Pack is faster and lighter for pure combat, while the Makeshift Digging Tool is better for tunneling. The Machete sits between them: a reliable all-rounder that can also process carcasses and materials.

Effects and usage

  • 38 tile damage at 0.35s cooldown; about 109 tile DPS.
  • 50 enemy damage at 0.8s cooldown; about 63 enemy DPS.
  • 5.75-tile range, decent knockback and 380 uses.
  • 200 Cutting and 15 Hammering quality; can amputate infected limbs.

How to get it

Weapon crates, life-pods and survivors. Craftable at INT 12.

The recipe requires INT 12. If you are below that level, the craft can fail or disappear from the menu. See the crafting guide for the exact failure thresholds, or open the crafting calculator to check the ingredients.

Field notes

  • Craft it at INT 12 once you have a Crude Cleaver to spare.
  • Use the reach to hit crawlers before they latch on.
  • It is not a mining tool first. Bring a digging tool for long tunnels.
  • Save condition for amputation and crafting; do not chop every wall with it.
Data note: values reflect Demo 7.0.1 and the public pre-release build. The full game releases on November 9, 2026 and may change item balance. If you spot a discrepancy, use the sources and corrections page to compare references.
